So anyone who knows me knows that i strongly dislike
medicine and refuse to take it even when doctors prescribe it and i pay a lot
of money to get it. So of course i agree with the author when she talks about
praising her way through depression. My mother and i were going through a
magazine for natural medicines and she came across medicine for stress. Someone
please explain to me how medicine can possibly help decrease stress that
accumulates when one is overworked or thinks too much? Especially if the person
continues to overwork themselves. Praise and worship on the other hand, even
during times of stress can bring you joy and peace. This reinforces the idea
that what we feed our spirit is what our character is going to display. I don't
know if this is only me but has anyone ever watched a movie where the main
character accomplishes something and by the end of the movie you are inspired
to do something similar? or find yourself feeling in a romantic mood after
watching a romance movie? The same applies to when you feed yourself spiritual food;
you will find yourself displaying spiritual character.
If you are constantly listening to uplifting gospel music no
matter your situation, then you will find yourself praising and worshiping God
no matter your circumstance. And as we all know and as the author states, God
is definitely worthy of our worship and praise and some of the reasons why He
is deserving of our worship is listed for us in the book but there are many
more reasons than that. Because God is worthy of our praise we have to be true
worshippers and worship Him in spirit and in truth. He wants us to display our
worship through our physical actions such as raising our hands, singing,
dancing, and worshipping. If you think about it for all the gifts that God
gives you everyday worship and praise is the only gift you can give back to Him
in return. Material things mean nothing to Him because he created it all; the only
thing we can offer Him is our worship and praise because for one He created us
for this sole purpose and also because like humans God loves to hear people
sing His praises and exalt him so why no offer Him what he loves? I pray that
God helps us all to be true worshippers and worship Him in spirit and in truth
by giving our all to Him starting today.
Too Blessed To Be Depressed and Too Endowed Not To Show It
You are a child of a king so make sure the whole world sees
that

Amen! It's amazing just how much power Praise and Worship has. It was while praising and worshiping God that Paul & Silas were miraculously released from prison (Acts 16:25-26)
ReplyDeleteShockingly... I've felt in my heart for some time now that I need to turn off the Christian music that I listen to. That's because it had gotten to the point where I was listening just to listen, but no longer really working on my heart. This is not to suggest that we stop listening to praise and worship songs. I still do. It's just that personally I have realized that when listening, it's important that I really take that opportunity to worship God or be ministered by the song instead of listening just to listen, or singing just to sing.
I've also felt in my heart as of late that I really need to incorporate praise and worship when I pray regularly! I will start to do that once I get over this cold that prevents me from talking much
I know i am mad late with this reply, i have been meaning to come and post for the longest time but never got around to it. i understand what you mean by listening to worship songs just for the sake of listening. But my personal opinion is that you shouldn't turn off the Christian music because sometimes the things that we don't focus on still registers in our mind. I say this because humans use what 20% percent of their brain for the most part so as we go through the day many things that we don't consciously focus on or take note of registers in our sub conscious. So even though the music is just playing and you feel that you are singing along just for the sake of singing along and your are not truly worshiping, the words are still feeding your spirit and registering into your subconscious and when the time ever arises that those words need to minister to you, they will rise to your conscious. But yes even if you are not full out worshiping it does go a long way to just think of the words that you are singing even for one minute, it all adds to the awe of who God is.
Deletei encourage everyone to take a minute out from your busy day each day to just look ate the world as you are walking around and think about the power and awesomeness of the God who makes trees grow, and the sun to go down in one part of the world yet rise in another, and snow to fall and the weather to change and all these things man can not do even if they come up with and explanation for it. All this is a form of worshipping God. Simplest explanation, God is Good!
Yessss Abbie, I do remember those nights when you were sick yet annoying because you wouldn't take med lol & as a scientist I can explain to you how med can help you with stress; however Praise&Worship is infinitely more effective than any med a doctor can prescribe against stress, depression, etc ... It brings such joy, peace of mind & ALL fruits of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22)
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more with "what you feed is what you display" & that's why all I try to listen to is gospel: from the moment I wake up to the moment I go to sleep; I say my car (my room too) is my sanctuary b/c gospel is all that gets played in there :) ( oo btw if someone could find me a bumper sticker that says " my car is my sanctuary" for my birthday ;-) .. ) & I try not to listen to songs that were not composed for the glory of God.
2 points about this chapter that caught my attention the most
* (Page 104) Praise&Worship works every time!! Notice there is no exception ! It works regardless of your circumstances/environment/ etc ... It just has to be done in spirit & in truth, not to please ourselves but to please God.
* (Page 107) Praise&Worship with others is one of the most powerful and significant things we can do in our lives - that moment when we are raising our voices to pray, when our hands are lifted up as if we could raise them higher to touch the sky we would, that moment when we are dancing $ shouting in the presence of the Lord, that moment when we are all drunk of His love & presence .. That's the environment my soul longs to dwell in :-)
Love you all ladies

lol yes Vanessa has a rule in her room no other music but Gospel. Thanks for your post Abbie.I am in the transition of changing to Gospel music.I must admit it is really uplifting and great to the soul. Sometimes i even cry because it touches my heart .
ReplyDeleteI absolutely agree with all of your comments, I have implemented that in my daily routine as well as soon as I wake up I put on worship music and I tell you that whenever I do I have the most wonderful day and nothing bothers me. I listen to worship music from the moment I wake up till I go to sleep and believe me my ears are subjected to it and I can't even listen to anything else, whenever I do listen to something else it feels weird to me at times. I feel more connected to God every time I listen to worship songs and I noticed that when I decided to make that my daily routine I felt closer to God and felt that I grew more Christian.
ReplyDeleteI feel you Lucia. It's actually to the point where I can't get down with some secular songs if what they're saying is completely off-base with what my mind has been conditioned to, as it pertains to the Word of God. I just can't get down with "Bandz will make her dance"... when I'm called a virtuous woman....
DeleteWhat are some of your favorite songs? Israel and New Breed and Chris Tomlin anything are always good ones for me... though a current favorite is Whitney Houston's "I Look To You"
ReplyDeleteSo I'm going to Jesus Culture's concert in February and decided to buy their CDs just so I'm a bit familiar with their songs & I'm HOOKED!! that's all I've been listening to this year. I'd recommand Walk with Me, Break Every Chains, Waiting Here for You .. well both their albums (Live from NY and Chicago Awakening). Other than that, I like Congolese Gospel (Mike Kalambay, GAEL), Hillsong, I try to get the yearly WOW Gospel CDs for the variety of artist.
ReplyDeleteKim Walker is my girl!!! I'm like the only person who can't get down to Hillsong :-/
