Chapter 22 - Lord, enable me to resist the temptation to sin

This chapter very much reminded me of a blog I recently read (http://www.setapartgrl.com/2013/03/sex-happens-before-our-panties-come-off.html), except it is specific to sexual temptation.

Two things I learned in this chapter:
-we easily succumb to temptation because we are not walking according to God's will - we are at the wrong place at the wrong time
-everyone gets tempted, yet our reaction to temptation tells us that we are either living to our sinful desires or living to please God.
These two statements above are related (in my opinion at least) because once you please God, you are more likely to act according to His will and less likely to be at the wrong place at the wrong time, and as a result, less likely to succumb to temptation. However, that does not mean that we will never be tempted! So always be prepared for temptation, by praying daily to stand firm, just like Christ has taught and told us.
So reading this chapter, I kept wondering, why is sexual temptation/adultery the most attacked temptation/sin? As in why does it compromise our future, the most, by robbing us of all good things God has for us? I mean lying is a sin, which can be used to tempt us, yet it is barely mentioned in temptation topics.
Anyone knows why!!?

  2. So I'm not sure if this is the exact answer but I see it as sexual sin is more harmful because it has to do with your body. Yes lying comes out of your mouth, but youre not physically doing anything TO the body. 1 Corinthians 6:18 says "Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body" and since our body is referred to as the temple of the Lord, its more sacred than anything else. Hope I helped?

Here's a song I discovered and I just wanted to share with you all. Hope you're having a great week.

  3. Hum so about this temptation chapter. Temptation has been a biggest thing for me since i decided to take this journey. I know Vanessa stated that it is either you are the wrong place at the wrong time or just get ready for it like a solider going to war. I for one will say that i pray to be a better person and seek God to help against temptations but once in a while i fall short. But pigging back to a previous chapter i can vouch that i am growing and improving in Christ because certain things that use to tempt me i look at it now a days an turn away and i hope that i can turn away from everything soon. Nice post Vannie P.S you all prayer worked i got one out of the two positions i interviewed for Thank You God and Thank you beautiful and powerful women.

    2. Congratulations on the new job Nana!! And WOW at the song Benine!

Vanessa you brought to light something that I missed when reading this chapter, which was what one's reaction to temptation tells us.

One of the most memorable preachings that I have heard was 5 years ago when this pastor came to Word Up (the bible study that I was/am) a part of at school and talked about double-mindedness. We all know of a big time preacher/ singer, etc.. who fell into sin. Oftentimes it's been a shocker, like "I can't believe he/she was doing that!" The pastor mentioned that how oftentimes there are sins that we are attached to because we never had real closure. Sometimes a good deal of time lapses before we are tempted again with that and it's because the devil likes to wait until we are "big enough" to tempt us again. That way he will be in a better position to expose the sin before a bigger crowd. So it's important for us to be detached from those issues and to be vigilant like Stormie mentioned, because the devil likes to strike when we're not thinking about it.

This chapter made me want to put on my war clothes for real because this really is a battle! For as long as we are alive and growing in our relationship with Christ, the devil will try to tempt us more and more. By the grace of God, no matter what the temptation is we will all STAND STRONG!

  4. Wow I never really thought of this but now I do believe that THE DEVIL really loves to temp Christians specially on the sexual aspects. And as Benine said its mostly because our body is the temple of the holy spirit and once we loose the spirit in us we are far from God and far from God we loose his protection without his protection he plays with us like a soccer ball. UUUMMMM sex is such a small word that does Huge damages. Thank you guys for this post made me realize a lot of things.
